LIBERIANS IN AMERICA URGE STRONGER TIES BETWEEN US GOVERNMENT AND THE WEAH-LED ADMINISTRATION

USA-SEPTEMBER 16, 2021-WTVNEWS: Liberians living in America are urging United States Ambassador accredited to Liberia Michael McCarthy to lead efforts in ensuring strong ties between the two countries.

The Liberian citizens are optimistic that the ties will ensure Liberia’s President George Weah meets his counterpart, US President Joe Biden.

Speaking recently to dozens of Liberians in North Dakota USA, the President and Founder of Jonahsa Foundation, a not-for-profit organization based in Liberia said Liberia has long-standing bilateral relations with America, and as a result of these relations Liberia and other African Nations must be given preference amongst the comity of nations.

Jonah Barcon told the gathering that since the election of President George Weah, the Country has experienced serious policy reforms and transformational developments across Liberia with less international support.

The Jonah Foundation’s President pointed out that the Weah-Taylor administration has done more developments than any other government combined in less than three years since the Liberian civil war ended in 2003.

Barcon recounted the government’s developments as the reduction of inflation, efforts been made to restore the rule of law as well as measures taken to curtail corruption, mobilization of domestic resources for infrastructure developments, equality Health Care delivery, free situation policy at Higher Public learning institutions in the country among others.

“For these developments to continue and improvement of the livelihood of ordinary Liberians to be realized, the US Ambassador to Liberia Michael McCarthy must do all in his powers to insure under his watch President Weah visits the White House before his first term ends’’.

The President and Founder of the Jonahsa Foundation in America is one of the Liberians who has been advocating that Liberia re-strengthens its ties as in the case of previous administrations both in the US and Liberia.

Mr. Barcon stated that former Liberian Presidents, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Samuel K. Doe, and others administrations had strong relations with the US that attracted many direct investments and opportunities for Liberia.

‘’ Similarly, we want our President George Weah to pay a courtesy visit to the White House to tell the Liberian story to the world, it is a historical moment we are hardly waiting for and we’re counting on the Ambassador to do this’’. He said.

Barcon’s statement comes at the time the Liberian government has announced that it has hired three American Firms to lobby with the Biden’s Administration for the purposes of rebranding and reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to the US.

At the huge gathering of across-session of Liberians in the US, Mr. Barcon called on Liberians both home and abroad to allay calls for Liberia to regain her place with Washington.
