“We Will Not Betray Our People” Boakai Says at NEC Official Certification

Monrovia -December 27,2023. President-Elect of Liberia Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai has reaffirmed his commitment to working in the best interest of the Liberian people. According to the Unity Party Standard Bearer, the trust bestowed in him by ordinary Liberians is cardinal, and as such; he will collectively work in his Vice President to ensure a prosperous Liberia.

He spoke today when the National Elections Commission (NEC) officially certificated him and Vice President Elect Jeremiah Kpan Koung as winners of the November 14 Run-off election.

The certificate serves as a mantle of authority and automatically guarantee their positions as President and Vice President -elect of the 2023 Presidential elections.

President-elect Joseph Boakai speaking at the certification ceremony reaffirm his government’s commitment of ensuring a prosperous Liberia.

“We will not betray our people, we will work for you to ensure your vote in November is not in vain. Over the next few weeks, and during my inauguration, my vice president and I will set out a roadmap for progress and development,” he said.

He added: “We will fully articulate the pathway to peace and development and progress of our country.” He said Liberians have acknowledged the reward of collective endurance.

However, Presenting the certificates to the winners, Madam Davidetta Brown Lansanah , Chairperson of the National Elections Commission said that the certification automatically qualifies the leaders as President and Vice President -elect of Republic of Liberia.
She applauded Liberians for a peaceful conduct of the 2023 General Presidential and Representatives Elections in the country.
“Today we are here to certificate the president elect and vice president elect. The commission remains ever grateful to its partners for ensuring a successful 2023 elections. Appreciation goes to the peace loving Liberians for a successful conduct of the 2023 elections”

Meanwhile, gracing the occasion madam Christine Umutoni, United Nations Resident Coordinator to Liberia lauded Liberians for a smooth conduct of elections; stating that Liberia has shown its capability to the world on democracy and transparency.

“Liberia has shown the world that it’s fully on the road to democracy and transparency. The United Nations on behalf of all of us who are members of the UN, I will like to take this opportunity to congratulate the NEC, the Liberian people for successful elections in 2023”

She at the same time thanked President George Weah for a smooth transition of government, stressing, that this victory is not only for Liberia but a lesson and legacy to Africa and the World at large.

“This is the first elections without international funds, no external support and the world was watching but you conducted it very well. We want to appreciate President George Weah for successful transition of power during the elections. This is not only a victory for the nation, this is not only a victory for Africa, it’s a victory for the whole world”.

Meanwhile, the official inauguration for the President and Vice President elect is scheduled for Monday January 22, 2024.
