FeJAL Elections Committee Certificates Officials-Elect

Paynesville-December 22,2033: The Elections Committee of the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) has officially certificated officers-elect of the Association. The EC conducted what was described as a credible elections on December 15,2023. A total of 222 FeJAL voted during polls. The president and Vice President-elect accumulated 156 and 150 votes to 62 and 70 respectively against their opponents for similar posts. The EC recorded 7invalid votes from the total 276 registered voter roll.

Those certificated were: Lisa Tenneh Diasay, President-elect, Oretha Bundo Seh, Vice President-elect, Patience Baye-Koromah, Secretary General and Famatta E Thomas, Financial Secretary.

The certification ceremony took place at the Association’s Headquarters kn Paynesville on Friday December 22,2023.

Presenting the certificate of elections to the winners, the EC Co-Chair Atty. Jelbeh Johnson congratulated the team for her clinching an overwhelming victory in the elections. “We present to you this certificate for being elected as president, vice president, Secretary and Financial Secretary of the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL)”.

However, receiving the certificate, fejal President elect Madam Lisa Diasay applauded the members of FeJAL for their steadfastness in making her president for the organization. “Four years ago this was a journey we started, and the journey didn’t yield fruits at that time. It was on your shoulders, it was on your sweat that we derived at this mandate today. Let me say congratulations to you for the job well done in securing an overwhelming and popular mandate for us to lead”.

The President -elect further congratulated her opponent Denise Nimpson and team for their participation into the elections. She then called for a unified FeJAL as a means of improving the institution.
“Gone are the teams and this is Fejal. The Unity we all call for is here and it’s about time we take that mandate”.

However, the new Fejal President appreciated the outgoing leadership for job well done; stating, that there is a need to have the outgoing leadership support to the new leadership for a better Fejal.

“To the outgoing leadership, you have done your best and I want to appreciate you for the efforts applied. We are also counting on you to help us improve Fejal because you can’t just leave Fejal like that”.

Meanwhile, auxiliaries of the media community who attended the ceremony commended the leadership for a smooth conduct of the elections.

Mr. Daniel Nyankonah , Acting President of the Press Union of Liberia lauded the outgoing leadership for a free, fair, transparent elections and promised to cordially work with the incoming leadership.

“We congratulate the outgoing leadership for a successful elections. To the new leadership, whatever support we have will be given to you”

At the same time, Madam Torwon Brown Sulonteh- Brown of Internews Liberia affirmed her Institution’s commitment to supporting the new leadership of the Female Journalists Association of Liberia.
“Internews is going to continue what she has been doing. We want to assure you that whatever support Internews has been giving to the past leadership will also be given to the current leadership”.

Moreover, Madam Siatta Scott Johnson, outgoing President of FeJAL encouraged the incoming leadership to tackle the organization challenges currently faced. She urged the new leadership to maintain unity amongst members of FeJAL.

“I didn’t interfere. I want to say to the incoming leadership we need to try to overcome the challenge here. We should maintain the space we have, election can come with gap but we should fix that gap”

Female Journalists Association of Liberia is a mother body for women journalists across Liberia. It is designed to support and strengthen female Journalists in their journalism pathways.
