To Strengthen Women’s Involvement in Development and Politics…..WONGOSOL Conducts STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETING

Monrovia, Liberia: A strategic planning meeting aimed at strengthening women’s full involvement in national development and Political Participation has ended in Monrovia.

The strategic planning meeting Organized by the Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) was held under the theme: “Strengthening the Roadmap for Women’s Involvement in National Development”. The meeting, with support from UN Women and OXFAM, brought together women from across Liberia who are heading community-based organizations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) among others.

It was intended to review WONGOSOL programs and activities, mission and vision statements as well and challenges and ways forward. WONGOSOL seeks a just and fair Liberian society where women and men equally participate and benefit from decision-making processes at all levels of the country.

According to WONGOSOL Executive Director, Madam Esther Davis, the plan is geared towards having a framework that will guide the implementation of WONGOSOL for the next 5years in strengthening women’s participation at all levels.

Madam Davis noted that there are issues of concern for women in different sector of the country that needs the attention of the National Government and international partners ” To know that there exists a women secretariat, therefore, issues that concern women must be channeled through the secretariat”.

For her part, the acting Board chair of WONGOSOL Madam Facia Harris thanked the Executive Director and team saying the strategic planning meeting will put together a document that WONGOSOL can relate to in terms of implementation reflecting current realities affecting women and children across the country.

“As we go about planning for the next 6 years let a not forget to also look at issue across the country that is directly or indirectly affecting women and children including minority groups and find ways to engage the National government to address these concerns”.

Madam Harris added, ” Don’t forget that the work we do as women also contributes to the growth and development of our country, let us keep advocating and promoting peace and security in Liberia, remember this strategic plan is not limited to the work we do in WONGOSOL”.

The Womenโ€™s NGO Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) was established in 1998 with a membership of 104 local womenโ€™s rights organizations in Liberia working to bring an end to sexual and gender-based violence and discrimination against women and children.
