Sen. Dillion Wants ‘Council of Churches’ Strives for Integrity

Liberia: Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius is rallying the Liberia Council of Churches to strive for integrity in its existence. He said it time the church takes the lead in standing against dishonesty and start to promote integrity in society.

Senator Dillion believes that the church could achieve this by living up to its own moral codes such as there is no difference between belief and behavior. “You cannot be saying thou shall not steal and be accepting donations or contributions from people with questionable earnings” he stressed.

Sen. Spoke recently when he served as key note speaker at the LCC Observance of International Ant-Corruption Day at its Headquarters 13th Street Sinkor.

Sen. Dillon urged the Christian community to deploy the concept of ” open rebuke is better than secret love ” in dealing with public officials who are corrupt.

He also observed that Civil Society groupings and other professional bodies like the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) must intensify their voices against corruption for the good of the public and and improvement of services in the country.

The Senator said that the Paramount importance in the fight against corruption is political will on the part of National Government led by President George Weah.

He added that the legislature must have the spine to provide robust oversight, by ensuring the august body is audited ” its troubling that the legislature has not been audited since 2006″ he lamented.

At the same time, He called on the Judiciary to serve impartially in dispensing justice and the rule of law, adding that justice must be blind and never compromise or been intimidated by political affiliations.

Meanwhile, the President of the Liberia Council of Churches Dr. Samuel Revees has called upon the Liberian Government to provide comprehensive financial reports on Bicentennial actives.

Dr. Revees believes that such report would increase transparency, thereby enhancing citizens confidence in the Weah led Government.

He also admonished the Liberian Government to back up the fight against corruption with political will and responsiveness.

The International Anti corruption Day is observed on December 9, of each year to design strategies that would curb the menace and recognize efforts made by people in ending corruption at all levels. It was celebrated locally under the theme: Recovery with integrity.
