NEC DECLARES CANDIDATES’ NOMINATION OPEN

Monrovia-September 14, 2021: Ahead of the pending representative byelections in four of Liberia’s fifteen counties, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has opened the candidate’s nomination exercise in Bong, Bomi, Grand Gedeh, and Nimba counties.

According to the NEC, the nomination exercise runs from Monday, September 13, 2021, at its headquarters in Sinkor, and ends on Friday, September 24, 2021.

In an NEC statement issued Monday, September 13, 2021, the candidate nomination exercise runs from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., daily.

The statement further said that the candidate nomination period is in line with the key dates released for the four representative by-elections, and warned that all aspirants for the four separate by-elections must appear in person to return the nomination package during the period.

Package for aspirants of political parties, coalitions, or alliances will be delivered to the chairperson or secretary-general of the party for distribution to their members, while independent aspirants can pick up the forms themselves or through designated persons, the NEC statement said.

Meanwhile, the NEC has informed the public that the accreditation exercise for party agents, the media, local and international observers for the by-elections in Bong, Bomi, Grand Gedeh, and Nimba counties started Friday, September 10, 2021, at the headquarters of the Commission in Sinkor.
