InfoQuest-Liberia Lauds Legislature for Endorsing Resolution on War and Economic Crimes Court’s Establishment

Sinkor-Old Road-April 9,2024: Infoquest, a civil society organization has express gratitude to the Liberian Legislature for bold steps taken in unanimously signing a resolution to establish a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.

The organization, in a press release Tuesday termed the Senate’s action as “welcoming” inline with creating accountability and justice for ordinary Liberians.

“InfoQuest-Liberia wants to congratulate the plenary of the Liberian Senate and the House of Representatives for endorsing a resolution to establish a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia”.

The House of Representatives on February 5, 2024 unanimously signed the resolution proferred by the President and sent to the Senate for concurrence. Today, the resolution was also signed by majority Senators (27) in special sitting of the 55th National Legislature.

The Court when established will prosecute perpetrators of heinous crimes bringing justice to victims of the 14 years of civil war in Liberia and those who diverted state resources to personal use.

“InfoQuest believes, it is a great decision taken by the National Legislature and serves as a bacon of hope for accountability in Liberia” Mr. Christopher Allen, Program Manager of InfoQuest said.

However, the organisation reemphasised calls to the House of Representatives to speedily pass the War and Economic Crimes Court bill presented to them by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the Liberian National Bar Association.

“While we appreciate their step to endorse the resolution, we want to stress that passing this bill will enhance effort for a full establishment of the court and enforce implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommendations” Mr. Christopher Allen said
