Over Liberia’s Health Sector Status…House Cites Ministry of Health

June 29, 2023-CAPITOL HILL: The Plenary of the House of Representatives during it’s Thursday June 29, 2023 session voted unanimously to cite authorities of Ministry of Health to provide a comprehensive update on the current status of the Health Sector in Liberia.

Plenary’s decision was triggered by a communication from Lofa County District #3 Lawmaker Clarence Kortu Massaquoi.

Hon. Massaquoi communication highlighted the poor condition of the Liberian Health Sector which facilities running out of drugs and ambulances without fuel to save ill citizens across Liberia.

“The devastating state of the Liberian Health Sector has become a consistent issue of concern for years”.

The communication also noted the repeated complaints of health workers over salaries delay; lack of electricity at facilities among others.

“For example citizens and residents of Lofa have complained that the Tellewoyan Hospital, the only referral hospital in Lofa County, is currently out of medical supplies; the Kolahun Hospital lacks electricity and the ambulance service is down”

The District#3 Lawmaker added that those issues raised must be addressed urgently to avoid worse situations including loss of lives.

However, following the reading and deliberations of the communication, the plenary unanimously voted that the authorities of the Ministry of Health appear Tuesday, July 4, 2023 to provide update on the current state of the Liberian Health Sector.
