LDEA Women Association Intensifies Campaign Against illicit Drugs

Liberia: The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency Women Association (DEAWA) has begun an awareness aimed at combating drugs and substance abuse in Liberia.

The group over the weekend ended a three day intensive awareness campaign across schools in Monrovia.

DEAWA, in a press release, emphasized that the exercise is to buttress the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency’s effort for a drug free society.

The release also indicated that the exercise is inline with President Joseph Boakai’s 100 days deliverables with focus on prevention, Trauma and Psycological counseling , evidence base data collection on person with substance used Disorder ( SUD), strategic partnership and enforcement of the Nation’s Drugs Law among others.

Additionally, the president of Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency Women Association (DEAWA) Sonnie Deddie Forkpah, promised the organization’s support to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency.

However, the women led group is calling on international partners to render support towards the initiative to enable them extend their work in the 15 Counties of Liberia.

“It’s a difficult task especially without transportation, water , printed materials and voice enhancement , like mega phone PA System to extend our voices during the exercise,” she added.

At the same time, the women have vowed to strengthen their campaign by touring the streets of Sinkor and Old Road in Montserrado County, preaching the importance of a drug free nation.

Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency Women Association (DEAWA ) is a structure of all female Law enforcement officers within the LDEA, established to foster and promote women’s solidarity , coordination, capacity building, mentorship and access to equal opportunity . It has been in existence for more than a decade.
