DRASTIC REDUCTION IN RAPE CASES…Gender Minister Piso Tarr Discloses

Liberia-July 15, 2021-WTVNEWS: Following few months after the deadly variant of the Corona Virus hit Liberia, it all seems that there’s freedom ahead for women and children relating to Rape and other sexual crimes.
In the heat of the CoVID 19 early 2020, Rape increased rapidly as there were reports of cases daily in corners of the Country. This led to a huge March for justice for victims and survivors of Rape and all forms of violence against women and girls.

A total of 992 cases were reported between January to August of 2020, Statistics from the Ministry of Gender revealed.

Not until few months after battling with another variant with high number cases of CoVID 19, Gender Minister is revealing a drastic decline in the number of Rape cases.
Minister Wiliametta Saydee-Tarr made the disclosure Thursday July 25, 2021 when she appeared at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing.

Minister Saydee-Tarr noted that as of January to July this year, the number of rape cases have drop significantly as compare to previous years.
The Liberian Gender Minister also revealed that other forms of abuses have decreased across the country over the last seven months.

Minister Tarr said the Ministry is committed to working collaboratively with relevant government institutions, in an effort to ensure perpetrators involve into rape, trafficking of children and other forms of abuses against Women and Children are prosecuted.
