Chinese Government Donates Huge Solar Panels to the Liberian Government

Monrovia-April 23, 2024 -: The Chinese Government through its Embassy near Monrovia has donated a huge quantity of solar panels to the Liberian Government through the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication.

The solar power donated is to be distributed to the Central office and eight (8) county post offices of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication, Republic of Liberia.

Speaking during the donation ceremony in Monrovia on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu disclosed that the project will provide a stable and reliable, clean, and green power supply for the Ministry’s Central Office as well as its other eight county post offices in Liberia.

He said Montserrado, Bomi, Margibi, Bong, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, and other counties are to receive improved local communication infrastructure conditions, and help Liberia’s economic and social development.

Amb Chengwu further revealed that Liberia and China are good friends and good partners.

“Under the strong leadership and strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, a China-Liberia relation is ushering in a new stage. As always, China will continue pursuing the principles of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in China-Liberia relations, and jointly promote fruitful results in China-Liberia friendly, pragmatic and win-win cooperation”, Amb Yin Chengwu stated.

Ambassador Chengwu concluded by emphasizing China’s commitment to helping Liberia achieve economic and social development, while working with the Liberian Government and its people to strive for greater development of practical cooperation in all fields between the two countries and make positive contributions to building a China-Liberia community with a shared future.

Receiving the donation and the hang-over certificate, Posts and Telecommunication Minister, Hon. Sekou M. Kromah, on behalf of the Liberian Government/the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication, thanked the Chinese Government for its partnership and goodwill towards Liberia under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Posts at the Ministry – Mr. Paul W. Thomas also appreciated the Chinese Government through its Embassy for the donation.

Director Thomas disclosed that the solar panels will be used for the purpose of electricity, and enhance postal digitalization to include remittance and e-commerce especially in rural areas.

“The installation of the solar panels at the Central is to provide light at night, curtail theft and break-in at the Ministry. As we speak, we now have light all around the Central office building during the night”, Director Thomas disclosed.

He said the solar panel project started in 2023 with the installation of solar panels at seven rural post offices, including, Tubmanbug, Kakata, Gbarnga, Ganta, Sanniquille, Saclepea, and Zwedru.

Other places that received according to Director Thomas were Randall Street Postal Annex and the Ministry’s Central Office in Monrovia.
