Young Women Rally Men’s Inclusion In The Fight Against SGBV and GBV

Monrovia-September 2,2024: Scores of Young Women at the close of a conference on August 31, 2024 held at the American Corner in Kakata, Margibi County are calling on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and it’s partners to include men in the fight against sexual gender based violence and other violence face by women and girls in Liberia.

The young women want the Ministry of Gender and its partners to build the capacity of their male counterpart to help compact gender based violence and sexual harassment.

The young women conference was organized by the ministry of Gender in Collaboration with partners aimed to educate girls

The Conference brought together young women from the various counties, which focus on the inclusion of men , Reduction in family planning and contraceptive pills

According to the women, the fight against SGBV and GBS will only be successful when men are included in trainings relating to Gender based violence and ways to compact it.

” We appreciate the ministry of Gender for such a unique conference for young women but we are begging them to include men in such trainings , we can not be learning about Gender based violence and sexual harassment and the men who mostly practice the act are being left out , we want them to be apart, let’s include them if we want to end GBV ”

Additionally, the young women called on the Ministry of Education for the inclusion of sex education in the national curriculum for all schools across the country.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection Laura Golakeh appreciated and encouraged the young women for their continue support to the Ministry and in the fight for equal Liberian society.

She also assured them of the ministry and support.

” I’m happy that everyone of you are present today I want to feel apart and grab every knowledge that is being taught in this conference , I don’t want you all to just sit and take all the fine pictures, I want everyone of you to learned and be able to teach your friends you left at home , Gender ministry and it partners will always be here for everyone ” she said

Also speaking Deimah Kpar-kyne technical coordinator for Gender and inclusion BRAC Liberia expressed excitement for the significant partnership with the ministry of Gender

” BRAC Liberia is committed to this partnership we are into this process of empowering and educating young women with our all , at BRAC we don’t discriminate we create equal opportunities for all ”

The Ministry of Gender is in partnership with
BRAC Liberia, Liberia Association of Psychosocial services ( LAP ) , United Funding and development for underaged Mothers ( UFDUM ) .
