Sen McGill Secures $600,000 Allocation for CH Rennie Hospital Reconstruction in 2024 National Budget
Liberia: Margibi County Senator, Nathaniel McGill has successfully secured US$600,000 in the 2024 National Budget for the reconstruction of the only referral health facility in Central Liberia, the CH Rennie Hospital.
Following his impassioned plea to Senate Pro-temp and Senator of Grand Bassa County, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence on April 24, 2024, the Margibi County Senator highlighted the urgent need for the inclusion of the CH Rennie Hospital in the National Budget.
In his recent communication to plenary, the lawmaker urged his legislative colleagues, especially the Senate Joint Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Budget and Public Accounts and Audits, to consider allocating at least One Million United States dollars (US$1,000,000) towards the major facility in the county.
However, in a positive turn of events, on April 30, 2024, the Liberian Senate acted decisively, passing the 2024 National Budget with a significant allocation of US$600,000 specifically designated for the reconstruction of CH Rannie Hospital.
This milestone achievement reflects Senator McGill’s unwavering dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure, marking a pivotal step towards ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services to those in need through lobby and legislative influence.
The Senator, prior to the success of his advocacy aimed at making fund available for reconstructing the once destroyed (burnt) hospital, had vowed to not vote for the passing of the budget if the Senate had not considered his plea.
During the Tuesday, April 30, 2024 session, Senator Mcgill was among the 26 duly seated Senators who unanimously voted on the record for that august body to concur with the House of Representatives to pass the legislative instrument, which is now forwarded to the President for his approval.
