Monrovia, Liberia: Liberia’s President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has expressed satisfaction with the proactive measures taken by the new Monrovia City Mayor, Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, in addressing the issue of cleanliness within the city of Monrovia.

Addressing reporters on his Decoration Day Tour in Central Monrovia, the President commended Mayor Siafa for spearheading efforts to clean up Center Street Graveyard and other parts of Monrovia including streets overwhelmed by garbage and neglect.

President Boakai extended his appreciation to Mayor Siafa for his dedication and commitment to the well-being of Monrovia, while reaffirming his continued support for the MCC’s initiatives aimed at creating a healthier and more vibrant city.

“I am happy that the new Monrovia City Mayor is cleaning Monrovia, including this very Center Street that used to be very filthy,” President Boakai acknowledged the positive impact of Mayor Siafa’s leadership on the city’s cleanliness and overall atmosphere.

The Liberian Leader, President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr., was speaking on Wednesday, march 13, 2024, during his solemn visits on Decoration Day to several graveyards in Monrovia, paying homage to Liberian past leaders, including the late President William V.S. Tubman and late President William R. Tolbert.

Liberians commemorate their losses every second Wednesday in March of each year as Decoration Day to honor the deeds and accomplishments of their ancestors.

Speaking further, the Liberian Chief Executive said his tour was a reminder to Liberians of the importance of collective action in shaping Liberia’s future and the need to reconcile and be united.

He then emphasized the importance of respecting and honoring those who have served the nation in the past, urging citizens to join hands in striving for the betterment of their country. “Our commitment for this country is to improve everything including the lives of our citizens, especially the young people,” President Boakai asserted.

The issue of sanitation has been a very serious problem across Liberia, mainly its capital Monrovia where nearly garbage is seen everywhere, posing serious environmental threats to human existence.

But with the MCC’s new Boss – Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, it seems like Monrovia is foreseeing a positive prospect in having a clean and green city.

However, the issue of funding provision directly to the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) for effective work has been one of the challenges faced by the institution.
