NDMA Budget 1.5 million for flood Victims in Three Counties

Montserrado – In a move to compensate flood victims, the National Disaster Management Agency of Liberia has budgeted $1.5million for those recently affected by the disaster. According to the Executive Director of NDMA, the Agency intend to distribute the cash to 5,200 households (26,000 individuals) displaced by floods in Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Bassa counties respectively.

Hon. Ansu Dolley, Executive Director of National Disaster Management Agency made the assertion at the Ministry of Information culture Affairs and Tourism Regular Press Briefing August 8, 2024.

NDMA boss emphasized,it is heartbreaking to see families grapple with the immediate consequences of such intense rainfall , which has caused not only physical damage but also emotional and psychological strain.
”Our commitment as a team is to support these individuals and families during this trying moment”, he said.

Adding, In order to deliver essential services and aid to those who are most vulnerable, their coordinated approach will ensure the needs of affected communities are addressed urgently and comprehensively

“Our dedicated teams are on the ground working tirelessly to locate and assist those in distress, ensuring that no one is left behind” He mentioned.

According to him, the NDMA has activated several clusters including Communication and Coordinate, Health and Safety, Search and Rescue, Shelter, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Director Dolley said each cluster is composed of skilled professionals and Volunteers who are working closely together to deliver essential services and aid to those who are more vulnerable.

The ED admonished citizens to see the recent disaster as a wake-up call for everyone to take action.

“I want to tell the Liberian People that the community resilience in the face of climate change -induced disasters should serves as a wake-up call for all of us take action, whether through policy advocacy, community awareness, or individual preparedness to mitigate the impact of future disasters”He said .

Speaking about its interventions, Dolley said NDMA over the time has made significant strive in reorganizing the coordination mechanism which brought together Stakeholders engagement platform.

Adding that they have conducted a holistic data collection and assessment of Vulnerable communities affected by the flood in an effort to respond to humanitarian needs.
