Ministry of Gender to Launch National Policy Dialogue Platform on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment

Monrovia-May 29, 2024: The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, under the Liberia Women Empowerment Project, is expected to launch the national policy dialogue platform on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment on Thursday, May 30th 2024.

The cross-sectorial dialogue platform launch aims to tackle policy-related constraints hindering gender equality and women’s empowerment in Liberia. Key objectives of the event include driving policy reforms and reviews in thematic areas such as gender-based violence, resilient livelihoods, and climate change adaptation for women.

Th gathering will bring together decision-makers and policymakers, as well as representatives from various sectors, to actively engage in shaping development approaches, regulatory frameworks, and budget allocations related to gender empowerment initiatives, particularly under the Liberia Women Empowerment Project.

The primary goal is to identify, prioritize, and advocate for policy and legal reforms that advance gender equality and women’s empowerment nationwide. Additionally, the dialogue aims to strengthen the leadership role of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in steering the empowerment agenda for women and girls in Liberia.

Furthermore, the event will serve as a platform for cross-sectorial policy discussions on empowerment and gender-based violence, engaging ministries and stakeholders committed to enhancing human capital development and socioeconomic opportunities for women and girls.

Among the topics slated for discussion are strategies to influence government adoption of policies addressing gender inequalities within public institutions and ministries. These include considerations such as code of conduct, sexual harassment, human resource domestic violence, and non-discrimination policies.
Participants will include representatives from seven-line ministries, including the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor, and Ministry of Justice, among others. 
Additionally, stakeholders from National Civil Society Council, International Organizations, Women Groups, Women Legislative Caucus, Traditional Leaders, Liberia Rural Women, and Development Partners (USAID, Irish Aid & Sweden Embassy) are expected to contribute to the dialogue.

The dialogue aims to foster collaboration and partnerships among state and non-state actors, with the objective of achieving greater impact in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in Liberia.
