In Cllr. Scott Case…Prosecution Withdraws Motion for Change of Venue But…

Liberia-August 9,2023: State Prosecutors prosecuting the case of former Justice Gloria Musu Scott has withdrew its motion filed for change of venue into the matter.

On August 2,2023, state prosecutors filed a motion of Movant before Judge Roosevelt Willie of Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice requesting a change in place/venue for a credible trial into the case.

The Notice of Withdrawal from the Government of Liberia dated August 7,2023, cited conspicuous public sentiment, constant discussion of the aforesaid case on public radio as reasons evidence for a change in venue on the case but however reserved the right to refile if the need arises.

“The Prosecution in the case IN RE: Republic of Liberia by and thru the Ministry of Justice vs Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, Gertrude Newton, Rebecca Youdeh Wisner and Alice Johnson most respectfully writes and submits a Notice of Withdrawal of the Motion for Change of Place/Venue in the aforementioned cause of Action, reserving the right to refile if the need arises”.

Additionally, Prosecutors writ of Movant also indicated that the case might lightly be interfere with if trial in Montserrado County where the incident occurred.

“There is a reason to believe that an impartial trial cannot be held within this jurisdiction (Montserrado County), where the aforesaid prosecution is pending. That, Movant says and avers that, ,evidenced by conspicuous public sentiments, visa-vis the constant discussion of the aforesaid case on local Liberian radio stations: if the aforesaid case is heard within this jurisdiction, Montserrado County; there is the likelihood of local ; prejudice, public sentiments and insecurity inter alia, which could have an adverse effects on the trial proceedings.”

Meanwhile, there has been no counter argument into the motion, as such; preserved the right for withdrawal by the prosecution.

It can be recalled June 22,2023, Cllr. Scott and three of her family members to include: Gertrude Newton, Rebecca Youdeh Wisner and Alice Johnson were arrested investigated and sent to prison on charge of murder, criminal conspiracy and making false statement to law enforcement officials after months of Police investigation into the death of the late daughter Charloe Musu.

The late Charloe Musu is the daughter of former Chief Justice of Liberia Cllr. Gloria Scott.

On February 22, 2023, Charloe was alleged murdered at the home of Cllr. Scott in brewerville by armed robbers. A claim Police have dismissed; indicating that their investigation proves that there were no intruder into Cllr. Scott house that day.

Cllr. Scott and other family members are currently behind bars at the Monrovia Central Prison awaiting court trial.
