House Passes Bill to Establish Paynesville Community College

Monrovia-June 13,2024-WTVNEWS: The 55th House of Representatives has enacted a bill for the establishment of a college in the City of Paynesville.

Plenary made the decision on Thursday, June 13, 2024 during its 9th sitting, 2nd quarter of the first session of the House of Representatives.

The bill, which was passed by majority members of the house, is intended to provide higher education and creates opportunities for residents of Paynesville and its environs through education.

The establishment of the Paynesville community college will help strengthen the educational sector of the city, which is the biggest commerical city in Liberia, hosting the country’s largest market,Red Light.

The proposed act was sponsored by Representative Michael Thomas, of District #4, Montserrado County.

Since his election in October 2023, Representative Thomas has been advocating for several educational reforms including the Creation of a College of higher education in the City of Paynesville.

He disclosed that the passage of the act is a huge success for the people of Paynesville and its surrounding.

Rep. Thomas emphasized the importance of creating a community college that will provide the space for Liberian to acquire higher education and contribute to the development of the country

He believes that the establishment of the Paynesville Community College is not only limited to the educational sector of the city but will help mold feature leaders of the country for nation building

“Education is the cornerstone of development,” stated Representative Thomas. “By providing affordable and accessible higher education, we are investing in the future of our community.

The Paynesville Community College will empower our youth with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed and drive our region forward.”he added.

The bill has now been forwarded to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.

If passed, the establishment of Paynesville Community College will mark a significant milestone in the educational landscape of the region, promising a brighter future for its residents.
