Gender Ministry Gets Big Boost with Vehicles and Motorcycles from World Bank Funded Project (LWEP)

Liberia: In an effort to strengthen Institutional capacity at the Ministry of Gender, Children and social Protection, the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) on July 11,2024 donated consignment in the tune of over USD$200,000 to the Institution.
The donation included three 2021 Model Toyota Land cruiser Jeeps, Four Yamaha Motorbikes and a range of office equipment.

During the donation at the EKS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, the Project Management Unit of LWEP stated that the support aims to significantly enhance the Ministry’s logistical capabilities enabling more effective outreach and service to communities across the country.

According to Cllr. Margaret Nigba Gayedyu of the LWEP, the donation is part of component four of the project which focuses on enhancing public institutions to promote gender equality and implement gender sensitive policies.

“Today, we are pleased to contribute these resources, which we believe will bolster the Ministry’s efforts in advancing gender equality and social protection initiative in Liberia.” She said.

Receiving the items, Frederick Cooper, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Gender expressed deep appreciation for the donation, emphasizing its critical role in bolstering their efforts.

“This donation provides a significant logistical boost to our ministry, It empowers us to expand our reach and effectiveness in promoting gender equality and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable groups.” he noted.

He added “such partnerships underscore Liberia’s commitment to addressing systemic barriers to gender equality while fostering inclusive development and social progress”

The Deputy Minister further stressed that the effort serves as impact of collaboration between the Ministry and LWEP.
“As these efforts continue, the impact of collaborative initiatives like LWEP resonates deeply in empowering women and ensuring equitable opportunities for all citizens” he said.

The Liberia Women Empowerment ( LWEP) Project is a US$44.6 million World Bank fund initiative aimed at addressing key barriers to gender equality in Liberia

It aligns with the government’s priorities on women’s empowerment and the prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV) to implement existing investment and introduce new initiative in the Health and Education sector

Their goal is to enhance social and livelihood services for women and girls in selected communities, promote positive social norms, and strengthen the government’s capacity to advance women and girls’ empowerment targeting approximately 257,200 people across six climate-vulnerable counties, spanning an estimated 750 communities.
