FRIENDS OF SAMUKAI VOW TO RESIST CALL TO NULLIFY LOFA COUNTY SENATOR-ELECT VICTORY

Voinjama, October 4, 2021, WTVNENS LIBERIA: Supporters of Lofa County senator elect Brownie Samukai have vowed to resist any call to declare Lofa County senatorial seat vacant.

Reading a position statement on behalf of the Friends of Samukai, the spokesperson David Mawolo called on the Supreme Court of Liberia to dismiss the petition calling for the senatorial seat in Lofa County to be declared vacant.

Mawolo said the alleged 6,000 signatures filed to the Supreme Court calling for the seat to be declared vacantly can not overturn the election results of Lofa County, particularly the over 20,000 people that voted Senator-elect Brownie J. Samukai during the December 2020 senatorial election.

Mawolo termed the petition filed by Cllr. Joseph K. Jallah, Cllr. Korboi Johnson and Cllr Lavellah Supuwood as a post-election mental trauma, saying it’s another failed strategy to delay the representation of Lofa County. “There is no law to stop senator-elect Samukai’s certification”.

Mawolo accused the Weah led Government of creating political roadblocks that continue to hinder the certification of Hon. Brownie Samukai, which has caused unwarranted sufferings and stress not only for Samukai’s supporters, but the people of Lofa County and the entire democratic process of Liberia.

“The political roadblock that continue to hinder the certification of Mr. Brownie Samukai is being championed by the Liberian government through the Solicitor General Syrenius Cephus and some members of the Supreme Court bench which has caused unwarranted sufferings and stress not only for us, the people of Lofa County but the entire democratic process”. He noted.

Mawolo continues “We have come to remind chief justice Francis Korkpor and the full bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia that what was done to the Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh to have illegally removed him which brought shame and embarrassment to the country’s judicial system, will not and can not survive daylight in the traditional county of Lofa County especially to Brownie Samukai Jr”.

According to Mawolo, supporters of Samukai will stand by the organic law of the Republic of Liberia saying they are prepared to defend the decision of citizens of Lofa County in line with Article one of the Liberian constitution, “Which says all powers is invested in the people, this we will do in response to any violation of the constitution of Liberia with every means within our power”.

“We stand by the organic law of the Republic of Liberia and we are prepared to defend the decision of the peace-loving citizens of Lofa County in line with Article one of the Liberian constitution that invested all powers in the people, this we will do in response to any violation of the constitution of Liberia with every means within our power”.

He concluded by saying the will of the people of Lofa County must be respected adding that the people of Lofa especially supporters of Samukai will not watch and see such a situation happen to Lofa County and its citizens.

On September 24, 2021, Some citizens of Lofa County through their Lawyers Lavala K. Johnson and Lavali Supuwood, filed a Writ of Mandamus calling on the high court to declare the Lofa County senatorial seat vacant.

The citizens in their petition to the court said the seat has been vacant for the past Seven Months something the citizens said violates the Liberian Constitution. They noted that Brownie Samukai cannot be certificated until his disabilities are cleared with the supreme court
