Liberia- March 12, 2023: Through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) recently signed an agreement to allow Jungle Energy Power (JEP) to boost electricity supply to residents of central Liberia, Bong County. The agreement enables JEP to take over LEC Bong County power grid to provide energy to central Liberia. JEP is currently providing power to Nimba County and parts adjacent.
The agreement gives Jungle Energy Power the supremacy to manage electricity being supplied from neighboring Ivory Coast in the Central region of Liberia (Bong County).
Remarking at the official signing ceremony over the weekend (March 9, 2023) in Gbarnga on Friday, Acting Chief Executive Officer of LEC, Mr. Monie Captan described the signing of the agreement as a giant step geared towards supplying effective electricity and providing managerial support in Bong.
Captan further added that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is also geared to assist ongoing efforts to supply effective electricity to Liberians.
According to the LEC Acting CEO, Liberia currently owed Ivory Coast ten million United States dollars for electricity supply; a debt according to him, has not been paid.
Meanwhile, Mr Capatan has at the same time frowned at individuals involved in power theft; adding that it undermines the viability of the nation’s power sector. He is urging those involved in such acts to disengage with immediate effect if Liberia’s Electricity sector is to improve.
