Breaking Barriers: Women Lead Press Affairs Department of Liberia National Police

Liberia-May 1, 2024: In a historic stride towards gender inclusivity and breaking traditional barriers, the Liberia National Police has appointed women to lead its Press and Public Affairs Department for the first time in its history.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman announced the appointment of Madam Cecelia Clarke as the Head of the Press and Public Affairs Department and the official spokesperson of the police force.

Additionally, Madam Delphine Myres has been appointed as the Deputy Head, marking a significant shift in the dynamics of leadership within the institution.

Making the pronouncement, Inspector General Coleman underscored the need for diversity and inclusivity within the police force.

He described the appointment as a sign of President Boakai’s commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality.

“In our work, we continue to push for women’s empowerment. After careful exercise, we carefully select new press and public affairs team heads” Police IG added.

“We are pleased to announce to you that Madam Cecelia Clarke is our new press and public affairs director and spokesperson. She will be assisted by Delphine Myers as her deputy” he furthered.

The decision to entrust these key roles to women reflects the commitment of the Liberia National Police to promote gender equality and provide opportunities for women to excel in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Madam Cecelia Clarke, assuming the mantle as the Head of the Press and Public Affairs Department, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve in such capacity.

“I am deeply honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. I will do my best in engaging with the media for the easy passing of messages to the Liberian people” She said.

Madam Clarke who is replacing Moses Carter now assigned to another department of LNP previously worked at the Liberia Broadcasting System and is currently pursuing a law degree at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.

Her new title within the LNP is Unit-122.
The appointments of Madam Cecelia Clarke and Madam Delphine Myers mark a progressive step forward for the Liberia National Police.

It also serves as a testament to the increasing recognition of women’s capabilities in positions of authority.

As they assume their new roles, all eyes will be on Clarke and Myers as they pave the way for more women to follow in their footsteps and contribute to the advancement of law enforcement in Liberia.
